Coorg — Scotland of India
From childhood, I was wondering how would it like to be in a foreign land and enjoy their culture, heritage, monuments, and scenery. I had no clue about that, but I am gonna find out someday. So, the closest place I went to enjoy the scenery of a foreign land leads me to Coorg, also known as the Scotland of India.
Let me pen down my experience of exploring the foreign land within the boundary of the Republic of India.
Every quarter 91Springboard organizes the trip to places nearby Bengaluru. This time the destination was Coorg.
Journey to the destination and sight scene
Since I recently joined the community. I had no idea, who were the people I would be going with. I was scared! 😨.
In order to know people and break the ice Vijay (Sr. Community Manager) asked us to play a game, where you repeat the name of all the members from the start of the chain and add your name at last and the next person would repeat the same (Ah! that was fun).
We started our journey on Saturday around 1 am. Everybody was excited pumped up to reach the destination and click a lot of photographs to get social validation (i.e. posting photographs on social media). While we were on our way some of the guys started grooving on the music and started dancing on a moving bus (Yes, that happened). After a long and tiring journey, we reached our destination.
The house where we were staying has an amazing view of hills covered with clouds and greenery wherever you look. I don’t know about anybody but I was charged as hell after seeing it.
We have our breakfast visited the family who owned that house. They have agriculture fields in which they have coffee and spices. The city is also famous for its chocolate and honey as well.
Post Lunch Activities
After exploring their home and fields we came back had lunch and went for the trek. While going up on the hills there was a time when we were scaling the mountain (and I mean literally). We scaled that trek in like 45 minutes (Yeah, that was fast). But, time was a big factor while we were trekking as the path was going to close at 5 pm.
On our way back we got the chance to visit a waterfall as well.
Bonfire Party (LIT!)
We were all back and everyone was getting ready for the bonfire party (as it was in itinerary 😜). Fire in the center, everyone gathered around started dancing, humming and of course drinking (Before reading further in the section reader’s discretion advice 🙏). Everyone had a great time. Now, the party was shifted into a room and Vijay pitched a drinking game known as “Witch”. After the game was over everyone was asleep as they were shitfaced.
Monastery Visit and Homecoming
It was the last day of our trip and we got the bad news that we couldn’t do white water rafting 😞(I was really looking forward to that). Keeping that aside we embarked on our way to Namdroling Monastery. It is the largest teaching center of the Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Buddhism in the world (I didn’t know that). After paying our respect in the monastery and golden temple, we started getting closer to our origin point. While tracing our way back to Bengaluru we stopped at KrishnaRajaSagara Dam.
Conclusion
At the start, I was scared as shit as I rarely go with the set of people whom I don’t know. But, the experience of the entire trip was awesome. I would like to thank the springboard crew and all the people who came on the trip, making the trip a great success. I would also like to give my best to Vijay for his journey ahead and last I would like to thanks to all the Abhishek (Photographer) who did an awesome job of capturing the moments.
