Remote Work Guidelines

In lights of recent events (COVID — 19), I am gonna share guidelines on how to work remotely and have tons of fun.
- Start your day, just normally you do with just one change. Instead of going to the office take a small walk come back home and start working. This will give you a feeling that now you’re at the office and ready to work.
- Get a workstation. You don’t need anything fancy just a normal study table where you can keep your laptop, a couple of action figures, notepad, and pen. If you don’t wanna buy, just rent it and then go for buying things.
- Normally developers know what’s the peak time in which they give maximum output, so manage your day accordingly. If you think managing is something you’re not good at, just keep a sticky note and pin it on the wall in front of the desk which will help you complete things on a timeline.
- Never ever sit on the couch/bean bag/sofa/bed to work. You’re definitely going to sleep.
- If you’re someone who drinks coffee/tea. Make it before you sit for work and keep it in a flask. That way you don’t need to get up every time to make the brew. If you don’t know how to make a brew then order it.
- Have an ample amount of natural light on the place where you are setting up your workstation.
- Slack and zoom are your best friends when you’re working remotely. Use them wisely. There will be a time if you ping someone and they won’t reply. Don’t call them instantly because they might also be stuck and trying to debug.
- Make channel integration on slack for version control, team-wise, company wise and for fun.
- When you’re all done with work, close the system and go for a walk. When you come back it will feel like home again.
- You will be tempted to cuddle yourself in bed for some time and then start with work. Don’t ever do that you’re going to sleep.
- Keep yourself hydrated, always have a flask/jug of water.
- While you go for your small walk before/after finishing work you can take some refreshments which will help you keep your craving for snacks at the bay.
At last, I am just gonna say one thing, remote work is the most awesome way to get your job done and enjoy life to the fullest. All you need is a little bit of discipline working remote and you’re gold.
I hope these guidelines might help you. Below are the images of my workstation.
